The Venetian Resort Las Vegas Celebrates Chinese New Year And The Year Of The Rabbit

Press Releases

Las Vegas, NV (Jan. 6, 2022) – The Venetian® Resort Las Vegas will celebrate Lunar New Year in traditional style with extravagant décor, entertainment, and food and beverage offerings.

THE WATERFALL ATRIUM AND GARDENS TRANSFORM FOR CHINESE NEW YEAR

To commemorate the Year of the Rabbit, The Venetian Resort’s floral and horticulture team worked with a team of artisans and consulted a feng shui master to create the massive Chinese New Year display.

“Planning for this extravagant Chinese New Year display began more than a year ago,” said Dana Beatty, executive director of floral and horticulture at The Venetian Resort. “Our guests cherish the Chinese New Year holiday, so we strive to create a display that is both visually stunning and culturally accurate.

The feature of the installation is a colossal rabbit that stands 16 feet tall and weighs 700 pounds. To create this stunning rabbit, the team used a steel frame to build the body before sculpting the shape with foam and faux fur, then added facial features, ears, and belly to create a healthy and friendly look. Surrounding the rabbit is lush greenery, as well as gold coins that represent prosperity. The rabbit, the fourth in the Chinese zodiac, is a symbol of longevity, peace, and prosperity.

EYE CEREMONY AND LION DANCE CELEBRATION ON JAN. 23

An important tradition in Chinese culture, and a favorite among guests, is the lion dance and eye painting ceremony which symbolizes luck and prosperity. The celebration will take place Jan. 23, at 3 p.m. in The Venetian porte cochere, starting with the eye painting ceremony followed by a parade of dancers and drummers winding their way through The Venetian lobby and casino before stopping in The Palazzo Waterfall Atrium, then continuing through The Palazzo casino, lobby, and ending at The Palazzo porte cochere.
