THE WATERFALL ATRIUM TRANSFORMS ON JAN. 12
To commemorate the Year of the Dog, the eleventh position in the Chinese zodiac, The Venetian and The Palazzo's floral and horticulture team worked with a team of artisans and consulted a feng shui master to create an installation that features a Chinese Shar-Pei, named Vincenzo Li, that sits 16 feet tall.
"Throughout the last 10 months, 86 artisans worked to create this installation," said Dana Beatty, executive director of floral and horticulture at The Venetian and The Palazzo. "The Chinese New Year holiday is an important one for our guests, and we aim to create something that is not only memorable, but culturally accurate."
The Shar-Pei existed in China since ancient times and was chosen as the featured canine for the display because it symbolizes good fortune and protection. The feature Shar-Pei was hand-sculpted and covered in artificial fur to achieve his robust appearance. There are nine additional Shar-Peis positioned throughout the resort, as well as a three-foot hare, the secret friend of the dog.
