Prestigious Team USA Culinary Competition Returns to The Venetian Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS (October 19, 2017) – On Thursday Nov. 9, The Venetian Las Vegas, in partnership with ment’or BKB Foundation, will once again host one of America’s most prestigious food competitions, the Team USA National Selection for the 2019 Bocuse d’Or. At the event, one team will be chosen to represent the United States at the 2019 Bocuse d’Or biennial competition in Lyon, France. Once the winner is selected, festivities will continue at a Thomas Keller’s Bouchon, where Chef Keller and fellow ment’or member will host an evening to commemorate this prestigious competition. 

TEAM USA NATIONAL SELECTION COMPETITION

The competition will take place in The Palazzo ballroom where three teams are allotted 5 hours and 35 minutes to prepare a stunning meat platter and restaurant-style dish.  Each entry will be scored on presentation and taste by an esteemed panel of judges led by ment’or founders and event hosts, Chefs Thomas Keller and Daniel Boulud.

  • Matthew Kirkley, COI, San Francisco, CA

This is an opportunity for Team USA to go for back-to-back wins at the Bocuse d’Or international event.  In 2017, Chef Mathew Peters and commis Harrison Turone delighted culinary fans round the nation when Team USA won the gold at the 2017 Bocuse d’Or biennial competition in Lyon, France.  This “journey to gold” began at The Venetian in 2015, when the Team USA National Selection competition was held in Las Vegas.

Thursday, Nov. 9, The Palazzo Ballroom, The Venetian Congress Center

  • Competition 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.; Awards ceremony 4 – 4:30 p.m.

TEAM USA 2019 CELEBRATION AT BOUCHON

The competition will be followed by a special after-party hosted by Chef Thomas Keller at Bouchon at The Venetian.  The exclusive evening will feature extraordinary cuisine and wine pairings set up throughout the restaurant and continue outside under the stars on the terrace next to the Venezia pool. Live music will be the soundtrack for the evening with an exquisite menu served by the following chefs:

Guests are also invited to participate in the silent auction.

Thursday, Nov. 9, Bouchon, The Venezia Tower inside The Venetian

  • 7:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.
  • Tickets are $225 per person

This is the second time The Venetian has partnered on this prestigious event with the ment’or BKB Foundation, a nonprofit founded by acclaimed Chefs Thomas Keller, Daniel Boulud and Jérôme Bocuse, that aims to inspire excellence in young culinary professionals and preserve the traditions and quality of classic cuisine in America and prepare chefs for the Bocuse d’Or competition. Ment’or also helps to build the right educational programs and resources to keep culinary heritage and talent growing in America for generations to come.  In three short years, ment’or has awarded nearly $1 million in grants to young culinary professionals, and has raised the bar and helped the Team USA reach the podium at the Bocuse d’Or for the first time in history in 2015 and win gold in 2017.
